When Carolyn Martin was diagnosed with severe Cerebral Palsy, her family assumed she was mentally defective as well. She reached school age before anyone recognized her intelligence. In her teenage years, when her parents thought they had reached the end of their ability to care for her in rural Alaska, she was institutionalized in Seattle, Washington. The nursing home for the elderly and physically handicapped in which she lived, changed management, and soon became an institution for the mentally retarded. This is an autobiographical account of what she went through dealing with the evolving society-wide reaction to her disability, how she handled her environment, and learned to dance instead of walk. She learned how to call the tune instead of the other way round for her life, particularly, how to rely on our savior for the instructions.
